More Information than you need about the 2013 NFL Draft: Receivers/Split Ends Edition

In Uncategorized on February 11, 2013 at 8:38 am

The NFL Draft might as well be an extended holiday — it’s part of how I mark my calendar each year.  And each year we are inundated with statistics about players until we aren’t sure who actually ran a 4.4 (the only statistic that seems to matter any more), where, and who said it.  This is an attempt to keep track of such information.  Where I come across information, I sincerely try to cite it (and I’ll be happy to correct my citations if you’ll give me the opportunity).

It’s ultimately an attempt to help us use numbers in the way we mean to — as descriptive/predictive tools.  We want to be able to prove to our friends just how fast R.G. III is or say why we knew, just knew, why Akili Smith was never going to make it.  This is ultimately a stretch, as is often noted; these numbers are the result of players training for a track meet and performing these skills in shorts.  Yet, knowing that I’m still a bit enthralled to see such items quantified.  Such are we with numbers, so best to have them in one place.

Terrell Sinkfield Northern Iowa

not buying the 4.19 hype so much — but without that headline I ‘m not looking up game film of anyone at N. Iowa

What I do see: he has first step quickness and has speed to burn.  Should be a prime candidate for wide receiver screens/end arounds if he can play special teams
